The Holy Name of God: Every day of our lives it seems we hear God's name taken in vain. Exodus 20 and verse 6 says" Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord God in vain. Thats just the first half of the verse and we will discuss the last half later in this devotion.

Notice the word Take: The Hebrew word is Nasah which interprets to lift up, or to voice, and apply in a vain empty manner.

Notice the Word Vain; Hebrew word is Shaw, which means emptiness void of any honor, or reverance.

God's Name Is Not To Be Smeared but Revered: I do not care to be called Reverand. The title Reverand is found only once in the Bible and applys to our God almighty. Psalm 111:9 says," He sent redemption unto His people; He hath commanded His covenant forever; Holy and Reverand is His Name."

Five Ways To Take God's Name In Vain:

1st. Profanity: Profanity is the exact opposite of holyness. It is a degradeing immoral verbage. When ever our Lords name is used in a frivolous and demeaning fashion it is a language of the devil. Beloved I have heard men who identify themselves as Christians, curse useing the Lords name. They might has well stuck a dagger in my heart for it pained me so. Beloved if we in the church do not respect and honor God's name how in the world can we expect the lost to do so?

2nd. Swearing: Be careful of this when asked to take an oath or to swear by God's name. Simply reply I promise to tell the truth as best I know it by my name. We do not have the right to swear by our Lords name.

3rd. Practically;  Have you ever heard the term," I am a practicing Christian?" Simply put it is your everyday life and walk with the Lord. Your testimony. If Jesus would not do it, we should ot either. If Jesus would not say it, we should not either.. Our lives are being watched by the lost. The world expects holyness out of us. If we live and talk like the devil then we are living and taking God's name in vain. We dishonor our Lord. The Bible has many examples. Achan, Samson, David, Saul, Solomon Ananias & Sapphira and many more.

4th. Presumptively:  You and I must not ascibe things to God that we have not been directed to do so. For example one day I drove by a church and on the church marque it had this saying," Don't make me come down there! God." While their intention was good their method was not scripturally right. They can't sigh God's name. Another example is when we give God the Glory or credit for an act that we did on our own. A fellow in my church one day, stood up an gave testimony that he had been praying for a motor cycle, and that God had answered his prayer that week, and gave him one. Now here is the rest of the story, that man because of that motorcycle, was out of church far more then he was in. It insults God and yours and my intelagence to suggest God would give him something that would come betweeh him and worship with God.

5th .Parallelism: That is when God is held equal with other so called dietys. Our God is Jehovah, Jesus Christ & Holy Spirit. The Great three in One. Our God is Omnipotent (all power) Omnipresent everywhere) Omniscius ( all Knowledge)

Closeing The last half of Exodus 20: 9 says, " For the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain. This is a solem warning.

Have you trusted in God's Son the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior? Have you bowed your head and prayed for Him to for give you of your sin and to come into your life? If you will do so He will do just that. Romans 10:13 says," Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. If you just prayed this prayer let us know we would love to rejoice with you.
